2023/24 Premier League Fixtures

Opening Day

The pace of Premier League football never slows down – and the fixtures have already been released for the 2023/24 season.

The opening game will take place at 20:00 on Friday 11th August, between treble winners Manchester City and the side managed by their former skipper, newly promoted Burnley. As a spectacle, I’m sure the Clarets fans will be relishing the match, but as far as reintroductions to the top flight go, it doesn’t come any tougher than this.

Last year’s runners up Arsenal welcome Nottingham Forest for the lunchtime kick off on the 12th August, and new boys Luton travel South to face Brighton at 15:00. New Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino will do battle with Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool in the hot game of the weekend on Sunday 13th August, at 16:30. The two managers have gone head to head on 11 previous occasions, and it’s not great reading if you’re a Chelsea fan… Klopp has won 6 and drawn 4 of the matches. But these records are made to be broken, right?

Key Fixtures

Other dates to note in your diary include Arsenal v Manchester City at the Emirates on the weekend of October 7th, and the return fixture between last year’s top two sides on the weekend of March 30th. Bear in mind that these fixtures may be moved for TV reasons, so won’t necessarily be 3pm kick offs on the Saturday afternoon.

There are also some hotly anticipated derbies – Arsenal and Spurs will do battle at the Emirates on or around September 23rd, and again at the Tottenham Stadium in late April, as the season draws to a close. In Merseyside, Liverpool will play Everton at Anfield on the weekend of October 21st, before crossing Stanley Park for the return game at the start of March. And in Manchester the Champions of the Premier League and Europe are scheduled to visit Old Trafford on the 28th of October, with United visiting their neighbours on the weekend of March 2nd.

Trying to anticipate the big final day clashes is tricky, as so many teams will have so much to play for as the season unfolds. Brighton will tackle a tough European campaign this season, a situation which in previous years has caused problems for the teams fighting on multiple fronts – having Thursday night games as well as their domestic weekend fixtures. But the fixture between the Seagulls and Manchester United is a potentially juicy Premier League finale on the South Coast.
