Fury vs Joshua in Cardiff: What to Expect on the Night
Boxing October 22, 2026 2 min read.
Cardiff’s Principality Stadium hosts Tyson Fury against Anthony Joshua on Friday 11 December 2026. The Welsh Rugby Union calls it one of the great unfulfilled rivalries of the modern era.
Here is what is coming, what the fight means for both men, and how to get Fury vs Joshua tickets and hospitality at the Principality Stadium.
The One Fight Neither Man Has Had
After more than a decade of rumours, public feuding and failed negotiations, Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua will finally meet at the Principality Stadium.
Their careers have run side by side for years without crossing. They have shared opponents, had mixed results against them and traded insults. The one question left will be settled on 11 December.
Why The Principality
Both men signed contracts to fight in April 2026, but the contracts named different locations. Joshua and his promoter, Eddie Hearn, wanted the fight in the UK.
Wembley Stadium and Madison Square Garden were the early frontrunners. Both presented problems, and Cardiff emerged as the alternative.
The Principality has a roof, so weather will not affect the card. Cardiff Council has approved an application for the stadium to stay open until 3.30am, which lets the main event go ahead at peak viewing time in the US.
What Is on the Line
The fight will be for a WBA heavyweight title. Frank Warren, founder of Queensberry, confirmed it: “Yes, it’s on the line. They’ve [the WBA] confirmed.”
The belt is beside the point. This is about which of the two is the better heavyweight, and it would fill the Principality without a title anywhere near it.
How They Compare: The Shared Opponents
Wladimir Klitschko. Fury outpointed him in 2015 through movement and control. Joshua met him seventeen months later at Wembley, went down, got up and stopped him in the eleventh. Sky Sports rate Joshua’s night the more torrid of the two, against an older Klitschko who had learned from facing Fury.
Oleksandr Usyk. Both fought him twice. Both lost twice. Sky rate Fury’s first Usyk performance the best of the four, while Joshua improved sharply between his two.
Francis Ngannou. The clearest difference of the three. Fury was knocked down by the former UFC champion and won on a split decision. Joshua stopped him in the second round.
Who Is On The Undercard
Nothing is confirmed at the time of writing. Jai Opetaia against Deontay Wilder has been rumoured, and the BBC reports that Manny Pacquiao will face Welsh former world champion Joe Cordina in front of a home crowd.
What Comes Next
The winner has options. Daniel Dubois holds the WBO title and has already spoken about wanting Fury, which makes him the natural next fight. A third meeting with Usyk is the one nobody is asking for, and Sky agree it is not needed.
For the loser, this close to the end of two long careers, there may not be a next.
