Matchday Memories: John Garrod
From the terraces to the lounges, greasy burgers to champagne and steak. Travelling through the ages of a grassroots supporter, Manchester United have always held a part in my heart.
Growing up in the 70’s and 80’s learning about the history of the club, from Sir Matt Busby picking up the club up from a bombed-out stadium to the constant regeneration of youthful teams who play with passion and pride.
A tradition began in the 50’s with Jimmy Murphy and Matt Busby, who oversaw the nurturing of young talent at Manchester United. From the famous ‘Busby Babes’ and ‘Class of 92’, the Red Devils have revolutionised the game, always wanting to take on the best in Europe. What sets Manchester United apart from the rest is its hallowed history from the Munich Disaster to Sir Alex Ferguson, the journey The Reds have taken me on will likely not be paralleled again.
Over the years, my matchday experience has transformed significantly. From being a season ticket holder in 96′ to 00′ and traveling with the Bristol and Bath Manchester United Supporters’ Club, to watching from the heavens with my wife and two children, I’ve seen it all. More recently, I’ve experienced the hospitality at Old Trafford, that offers culinary delights and providing a padded seat with an exceptional view.
Being able to take advantage of the club’s hospitality has not only allowed me to visit more regularly, but also see Old Trafford in a new light. Moreover, it provided me the incredible opportunity to meet heroes of my past. Sharing stories and reminiscing about our mutual love for the game has been truly special. This experience, from the moment you’re guided to your lounge by attentive staff who go above and beyond, is nothing short of unforgettable. Combined with the outstanding matchday amenities. Adds up to being special and unforgettable. Forever planted in the memory of my ultimate footballing experience ever.
