FA Cup Third Round Draw
The FA Cup, the world’s oldest and most prestigious domestic football competition, is back with all its drama, passion, and unforgettable moments.
Following the FA Cup Third Round draw on the 2nd December these fixture only add to the excitement of the busy festive calendar. The Premier League and Championship teams join the fray, setting up the kind of matchups that make this competition so special.
Arsenal v Manchester United
Holders Manchester United have been drawn away to Arsenal in the FA Cup third round.
Manchester United have won the FA Cup 13 times – a feat bettered only by Arsenal’s 14 triumphs. The Red Devil boss will be hoping to equal Arsenal’s record this season and maintain the trophy, with the Portuguese Amorim believing he’s the right choice for the Manchester Club.

Barring Community Shields, Arsenal & Arteta’s last trophy came in a 2-0 win in 2019 against their bitter rivals Chelsea in the FA Cup Final. Gunners want to capitalise on their recent positive form and add to their impressive FA Cup haul as its unlikely that manage to chase down the nine point gap.
Aston Villa v West Ham United West Ham and Aston Villa will bring a Basque touch, as two seasoned tacticians from the Spanish region face off in this FA Cup clash. Villa are seven-time winners of the FA Cup, last lifting the famous trophy in 1957. While West Ham more recently winning the competition in 1980.
Lopetegui has faced Emre eight times throughout his career with the Iron’s manager winning 3, comparatively Emery has won 2. Lopetegui’s West Ham has had a poor start to the Premier League season winning 4 of their 13 games in the Premier League While Champions League Contenders Aston Villa have struggled this season with inconsistency and injuries following their European nights meaning they sit 4 points above their claret and blue rivals.
Manchester City v Salford City The Class of 92’-owned Salford City will make the 4.5-mile trek to Manchester City’s Etihad stadium. This will be the first time these two have faced in a competitive fixture. Pep will be hoping to add to his proud collection of trophies with him previously winning this competition twice before.
Most recently in his 2022/23 Treble-winning season. In a sharp contrast this is the furthest round that the Ammies have gone in the FA Cup. The Class of ’92 – Nicky Butt, Gary Neville, Phil Neville, Ryan Giggs, and Paul Scholes – with Salford poised to upset the odds will be dreaming of major cup upset that will leave the city painted Salford red.
Liverpool v Accrington Stanley Arne Slots first FA cup campaign starts with a home game to Accrington Stanley – only the second meeting between these two sides the last coming in 1956, where Don Welsh’s Reds won 2-0. Slot’s Reds sit 89 places above their opposition at the top of the Premier League, while Accrington have endured a different start to their League Two season sitting 19th – five points above the drop.
Despite their poor form, Donald Love and Sammy Aljofree both heralding from Manchester United’s Carrington will be wanting to make impressions against their former fierce rivals. Whilst Accrington Striker Josh Woods and huge Liverpool fan will be wanting to soak in the illustrious Anfield atmosphere.
Chelsea v Morecambe In a repeat fixture of the 2021 meeting at the same stage, and venue in which then Frank Lampard’s Chelsea beat the Shrimps 4-0 winners. With Mason Mount, Timo Werner, Hudson-Odoi, and Kai Havertz scoring that day – all of which have now moved on.
This will also be Morecambe’s fourth appearance in round three within the last five seasons, with the side never progressing past the fourth round in their clubs history.
Chelsea have got to play 10 games in 42 days over the Christmas period with Maresca opting for wholesale changes for his cup competitions often rotating 9 to 10 players at a time for his conference league bouts, it is unlikely that the Argentine will opt for something different for this fixture. Morecombe however will make the 256.8-mile journey to Stamford Bridge.
The Shrimps will be hoping their form will be revitalised in the FA Cup as they currently sit 22nd in the league two, with the threat of dropping out the football league entirely on the cards.
Everton v Peterborough United Previous FA Cup winner and Everton full-back Ashley Young, faces his 18-year-old son Tyler. After the Toffees drew Peterborough at home.
WOW………. Dreams Might Come True 🙏🏾🤞🏾💙#FaCup #GoosebumpsMoment #YoungVsYoung — Ashley Young (@youngy18) December 2, 2024
This extremely rare case where a father has played his son in FA Cup action has not been seen in the modern era.
Peterborough Boss Ferguson told BBC Radio Cambridgeshire: “I don’t think it’s ever happened. Ash has put me under a bit of pressure there. I’ll have to find a way of getting Tyler involved.”
With almost every home game at Goodison Park sold out this FA Cup tie not only provides the fans potential FA Cup success but an opportunity to secure tickets for the final season at their beloved ground.
